Address Formatting & Standardisation (Why Addresses May Appear Different)
Overview
When an order is imported into Pimento from a sales channel (e.g. Shopify), the delivery address may be slightly reformatted.
This is expected behaviour.
Pimento automatically tidies and standardises addresses to improve consistency and delivery success — but this does not block or delay the order.
Does This Put Orders On Hold?
No.
Address formatting and standardisation does not place orders on hold.
Orders will continue through the normal workflow unless there is a separate issue (e.g. missing data, shipping configuration, etc.).
What Happens to the Address?
Pimento checks the address using Google Maps (Enterprise API) and, where confidence is very high, applies small formatting improvements.
This may include:
• Standardising city names
• Converting country codes (e.g. GB → United Kingdom)
• Cleaning up formatting for consistency
Additionally, Pimento may restructure address lines for better readability and carrier compatibility.
For example:
“1039 Bellview Road, Chelmsford”
→ Line One: 1039 Bellview Road
→ Line Two: Chelmsford
This only happens when Line Two is empty and the format clearly allows it.
Important: This Is Not Visible to Customers
The comparison between the original channel address and the formatted address is only used internally by Pimento.
This view is not available within the dashboard.
Users will only ever see the final, formatted address on the order.
What Pimento Will NOT Change
Pimento will never modify customer-specific data.
This includes:
• Name
• Company
• Phone number
• Email address
• Original address content (only formatting is adjusted)
No personal or identifying information is altered.
Why This Is Done
Small inconsistencies in addresses can cause:
• Carrier issues
• Failed deliveries
• Manual corrections by warehouse teams
By standardising addresses automatically, Pimento reduces friction in fulfilment and improves delivery reliability.
Important Notes
• This process is automatic and does not interrupt order flow
• It is focused on formatting, not altering customer intent
• It helps carriers correctly interpret delivery details
• It does not trigger “On Hold” statuses
