Understanding Warehouse Location Structures

Why is Warehouse Structure Important?

Before creating warehouse locations in Pimento, it is important to understand how the location structure relates to your physical warehouse.

The information entered into the Location Upload CSV is used to create warehouse locations and build the 3D Warehouse Map.

Understanding how these fields work will help ensure your digital warehouse matches your physical warehouse.

Understanding the Location Structure

Pimento uses the following structure:

Zone → Aisle → Bay → Level → Bin

Each level becomes more specific until a single storage location is identified.

What is a Zone?

A Zone is a large section or room of the warehouse. If your warehouse consists of one room and you want it displayed that way you can just call it something like "Main"

Examples:

  • Main

  • Cosmetics

  • Clothing

  • Returns

  • Bulk Storage

A warehouse may contain multiple Zones to help separate different inventory types.

What is an Aisle?

An Aisle is typically a single row of shelving or racking in your warehouse.

If you have multiple rows of shelving in your warehouse then these would be represented by the different letters like the following;

  • A

  • B

  • C

  • D

A warehouse will often contain multiple aisles within each Zone.

What is a Bay?

A Bay is a section within an aisle.

For example:

Aisle A

  • Bay 1

  • Bay 2

  • Bay 3

Each bay usually represents a shelving unit or rack section.

What is a Level?

A Level represents a shelf height within a bay.

For example:

Bay 1

  • Level 1

  • Level 2

  • Level 3

  • Level 4

What is a Bin?

A Bin is the exact storage position on a shelf.

For example:

Level 2

  • Bin 1

  • Bin 2

  • Bin 3

This is typically the lowest level location within the warehouse structure.
