What Are Shipping Rules? (Overview and Defaults)
What are Shipping Rules?
Shipping rules determine how orders are assigned to specific shipping methods. They control which carrier or service is used based on conditions such as region.
How Shipping Rules Work
When an order is created, Pimento evaluates available shipping rules.
It will:
• Match the order to a region
• Apply the corresponding shipping method
• Use the defined copy (label) if provided
This ensures orders are routed correctly for fulfilment
Default Rules
Default rules are pre-configured to ensure coverage across regions.
These typically include:
• United Kingdom
• Europe
• United States
• Rest of World
Default rules act as a fallback if no custom rule is matched.
Rule Structure
Each shipping rule includes:
• Name (internal reference)
• Region
• Copy (optional display name)
• Shipping Method
These fields define how the rule behaves.
When Rules Are Applied
Shipping rules are applied automatically when:
• An order is created
• Shipping details are confirmed
The system selects the first matching rule based on configuration.

Important Notes
• Default rules ensure global coverage
• Custom rules override defaults when matched
• Incorrect setup may result in wrong shipping methods
• Rules are applied automatically — no manual selection required
